Streetwork

"Quomodo cantibimus canticuum Domine in terra aliena."

For a long while, I was a social worker that had the chance to work with people that had no permanent place to dwell. A teacher once told me that "We have no permanent place here...", homelessness is our human condition. The psalm has it, "How can we sing any prayers to God from such an strange land?" These essays are my sense of how, from such an alien and difficult place, these people were still able to make that kind of music.
