Mary
Ferry Buchholz
The oldest girl, and the first to
emigrate to America. She was gone from the Forth by the time my
father was born. She married a man in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, named
Otto Buchholz. They had three children: Bill (married Joyce, he
was a police officer in Los Angeles) Jim, and Gert. Mary returned
once to her birthplace, accompanied by her daughter Gert. It was
before WW I. She died in the 1940s, her family moved to California.
Her grandson, Michael Buchholz, visited
the farm (2002) and left this picture of his grandmother with
Breege.
Mary's daughter, Gert, married a
man named Vucinich. Gert accompanied my parents, Joe and Florence,
and also Dan and Madeline Ferry for a vacation to Donegal in 1966.
She had been there once before, as a little girl with her mother.
Her son, Bill, married Joyce. They
had two sons, Michael and Jeffrey. Mike, pictured here with Breege
and her own brother John, on the stoop of the farmhouse, is married
to Lenore and they have Wendy, Dustin and Casie and live in California.
This Michael once visited his Philadelphia Ferry relatives. He
was in the US Army at the time and bound for duty in Germany.
My sisters remember Michael's visit because he was a good looking
California surfer - worried that there were no waves to be found
in Germany.
Mary's son, Jim, married a woman
named Chris.
