Grace
Ferry Laudenslager
She is pictured above as a young
woman about to leave Ireland for the United States. On arrival,
she did not settle down immediately, as did her brother Jimmy,
but she traveled about. She visited her sister, Mary, in Wisconsin.
She worked for awhile in Panama, and she worked at Saint Charles
Seminary. Hughie told me that Grace had been indentured as a twelve
year old girl to a farm family in the Lagan Valley - her job was
to keep house for the farm family. In that capacity, she would
sneak sweet out to the barn, where Hughie lodged (his job was
to tend animals - and he lived in the same building as his charges.)
Grace had one child, her daughter
Peggy. Grace's husband was Harvey Laudenslager. They lived at
1452 North Ithan Street in Philadelphia. Harvey died in 1960.In
1961 (I'm uncertain about date) Grace visited Ireland seeing Sarah,
Hughie, Jimmy while there. She lived on independently at Ithan
Street, often visiting daughter Peggy, son-in-law Jimmy Nugent,
and her grandchildren Nancy, Jimmy, Pat and Jack at there home
in Somerton. She died around 1980.
