A
Eulogy for Their Grandfather
You may have read about Mike Gallagher in the newspaper this
week and about how he was a good father, neighbor and merchant
marine. But a big part of his life was being a grandfather,
so, we thought about the things we, as his grandchildren remembered
most about him and Becky put our memories to paper.
Mike Gallagher was our grandfather. Simple and strong. When
most of us picture him, we see him sitting in his old blue
recliner with a towel draped over the back and a glass of
ice water on the table next to him, squeezing that weird
hand-grip thing, watching a Phillies game or the Lawrence
Welk Shoe. Or we picture him drining around in his car, blessing
himself with his Saint Christopher medal, stopping in places
to visit for a while or to deliver little gifts. Hes was
very neat, and his car, (his Palace), complete with weiner
whistles and funny sunglasses, was always spotless, smelling
brand new.
