We lived at 5823 Chester Avenue from 1948 until
1970. Recently, I drove through the old neighborhood and
drove
from Cobbs
Creek Parkway up 59th Street to Chester and turned to drive
past
the old house. It wasn't there. I felt some breath run
out of me

The crack in the sidewalk that always kept a
puddle of rain, the low stone wall fronting the bit of lawn;
these things as much as the structure of the house, they were
gone. Still, the #13 ran by with the distinctive sound of the
trolley on the track. And the oak trees planted across the
street in the early 50's, that stood up, as saplings, to Hurricane
Hazel, were strong, there, and now 18 inches in girth. The
look eastward still has the Presbyterian Church, and MBS more
distantly.
