Ferry

JimmyJack Ferry, son of Jack Ferry,married Ann McFadden, daughter of Dan McFadden of Dunmore and Ann McGinley of Drumnatinney. JimmyJack and Ann had twelve children all born in the farmhouse pictured above in Drumnatinney, Falcarragh Ireland. Their son was my father.

John Hughes and Honor Finn of Kiltimagh, County Mayo Ireland were the parents of John Hughes who married Cecelia Flynn whose parents were Tom Flynn and Mary Costello of Claremorris,.County Mayo Ireland. John Hughes and Cecelia Flynn married in Philadelphia and had six children.. My mother was their daughter.

Returns to Ireland

Over the years I've had chances to visit Ireland, and so have a lot of memories and photos from those trips:

  • 1958 - Pop returns home to Ireland - after an absence of 29 years. With Jimmy, across Atlantic on the "Liberte", back home on TWA Constellation.
  • 1970 - JJF and JPF, then Florence, Kit, Jim Dugan and Carol Kacala. My father asked me to stay and be of some help to my Uncle Hughie who was sick. I stayed until Christmastime. In October, Hughie was well enough to travel, JJF arranged for him and Joe Clarke to visit the USA.
  • 1973 - Kit and I buy farm in Meenacreeve
  • 1990 - After time in USSR, JPF meets Kit in Dublin and we have a week in Donegal.
  • 1994 - Kathleen was studying in London; Dan and I visited her, and we three went off for a quick weekend visit to Falcarragh.
  • June 1998 Family Reunion. The Jimmy Jacks get together for a reunion. We all stayed at Ballyconnell House, which had been turned into a B and B.
    July 1998 - Time on Inishdooey with seals and seagulls.
  • February 2000 - JJF, Kelly, JPF - Lough Derg, Ormond Quay Hotel, Fanad Peninsula
  • June - August 2000. JPF lives out on Inis Bo Finne. Then Kit takes him away to Scotland.
  • February 2001 - London, Ireland - with JJF, Kel, Florence, and JPF - Nuala, Claremorris, Kiltimagh, Leo McLoone singing in Glenties. At Carraig Rua.
  • February 2002. Florence,JJF, Jim Kelly, JPF, J O'D, meet up with Nuala in Paris, Michael Kahn Ferry in Dublin, The Clarkes. Laura Lee Swan and all in Donegal - at Carraig Rua, Dunfanaghy
  • February 2003 slide show. Kelly, JJF, JPF - London, terror scare at Heathrow, then Kelly's cousin Peter McGinley dies. JPF notes on the trip
  • February-March 2004 - Jimmy Ferry, Jimmy Kelly and John O'Donnell travel to see the Pope in Rome, then to Paris, Dublin, Donegal and London.
  • March 2005 - JJF, JEK, and JPF visit to Ireland
  • JPF sails to Ireland from US to Ireland. Videos of voyage May23-Jul17, 2006
  • February 2007 visit. JJF, JPF, Kelly, George McLaughlin, and Charles Mulholland. Stay w Cannons

  • October and November 2009 - repairing farmhouse and return on Queen Mary 2 - JJF, JPF.

Next Generations

Gallagher - Kit's Family

Kit's family are the Gallaghers. Family name on maternal side is Smith. On her Dad's side the names are Bytsura, Chalachan. Both her parents were born in upstate Pennsylvania, their families were miners. There is Czech, Slovak, English, maybe Polish and French ancestries, but, as of this writing, no details or family memories of European relatives, towns or provinces.

These pages and screens are to be a library of sorts - a scrapbook - of pictures and memories of the people most important to me. It is for the use of my family, relatives and friends;it is a way that I can share some of the photos and information in my possession. I have over the years accumulated many of the old snapshots of our families - this seems like a good way to make them available to neices, nephew, cousins that would enjoy them.

Most of the pictures on these pages, have been scanned and compressed, so that the pages won't take long to download - but there is usually a loss of some detail -and they don't print out as well as the originals. If you right-click on the images, you'll be able to save them in your own computer. For any of you that want or need to make copies of the original, give me a call.

As I work on writing the text for these pages there will be errors of fact. Let me know what I've gotten wrong so that I can correct it.If there are any facts, stories or pictures that relatives would like to add to this material, email it to me and I will put it on this site.
