Senior Research Seminar will meet on Weds nights at Chestnut Hill College main campus from 5:30 PM until 10PM March 4, 2009, and on each Weds evening until April 22, 2009
March 4, 2009 - Intro to Seminar
Course overview, syllabus, class introductions, editorial assignments.
Discussion of research topic and issue for analysis, developing a research
thesis. Chapter 1.
# 1 Writing Assignment: Summarize your college learning experiences to date and your career objectives. What do you perceive as your strengths and weaknesses? Discuss potential issues of analysis for you seminar paper. What questions do you want to research? Write up timetable, calendar for accomplishing this research. Refer to text as an example. Due 9:30pm - 500 words.
March 11 - Topic Selection and Preliminary Thesis
Information Center tutorial.
Topical research and writing. Editorial process.
Have read chapter six and seven in Manual
# 2 Writing assignment: Describe your topic (200- 300 words). In addition, list your key search terms, list search engines, indexes you will use; interlibrary loan requests. Due 9:30pm.
March 18 - Writing Process
Research, editorial work, drafting.
Have read chapters 1- 4 and 10 in the Manual
# 3 Writing assignment: Submit a preliminary thesis statement, brief introductory paragraph and substantial outline review of your paper with briefly annotated bibliographic references. Due 9:30pm.
March 25 - Oral Presentation Format
Discussion of theses, outlines, bibliographies.
Research, writing, editorial work
April 1 - Formatting, organizational work, rewriting
Organizing paper, rewriting, substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading
and rewriting.
April 8- Polishing writing,
final formatting, final copyediting and proofing.
*10 pm - Final draft due to instructor
April 15 - Presentations
*Final drafts returned
